A Trip to the Farm in Candaba

I have been thinking about the CCK11 class. It is a bit overwhelming, but I am trying to find a way to understand the content looking through the lens of a K – 6 teacher. One never knows when the magic will happen. Yesterday I shared The Trip to the Farm voicethread with my third grade students. They have corresponded with this family since the start of the school year on simple projects–drawing images, writing notes and watching short videoclips. Rox had some photos that he wanted to share with us, so I suggested using voicethread so that we could not only see the images but hear the voices. My students listened to Vint and his friend. At first they couldn’t understand the accent but then they were able to repeat exactly what they heard. After one of the slides, my third grade student enthusiastically said… ‘I know that! We have those in Jamaica!’ What a great feeling it was for her to be able to share the similarities between countries and make connections. At the elementary level, I think that is what building connections is all about. Here is the voicethread that they listened to. Feel free to add a comment if you would like.
