Managing Ipads in the Library

We just purchased 10 ipads and an ipad cart for the library this fall. Yesterday was the first day that the librarian introduced them to the fifth graders. It worked out quite well. She used the ipad adapter to project the image of the ipad on the SMART Board. She introduced one app about the US Presidents and assigned a group of 10 student to go to two round tables to work with the ipads. They had headphones on so that they could focus, but there was no sound in that app. They were told that they needed to stay on this one app during their time on the ipad. They had the chance to read about the presidents and play the game. The session lasted about 12 minutes. Then they switched withe their classmates who were reading or picking out a book. Before they left the ipad, the librarian had the students wipe the ipad with a cleaning cloth so that their fingerprints were removed from the glass. This structure worked very nicely for us. You might try a variation of this to see if it works for you.
