An Aussie Emu

Photo by Mr. Michael Macnamara Enfield, South Australia

Our Circle Song friend from South Australia sent us a big picture of an emu that he took when he and his family were visiting the Parra Wirra Recreation Park near Adelaide, South Australia.

My first graders talked about emus, watched a video below:

Then we created our own emu in Kid Pix and I put the images into a slideshow to share.

Click on the link below to watch the Emu Slideshow by first grade artists.

Sakari Visits Australia

Our Japanese teacher friend is enjoying a homestay in Australia for 3 weeks. This morning he skyped to share a quick tour of his ‘home in Australia’ and showed me the rice balls that he made with seaweed he brought from Sendai. He was amused by the rice cooker

and pointed out that the Thai rice didn’t stick quite the same way as the rice in Japan.

Sakari is teaching his host some Japanese words by posting them on the refrigerator.

He tasted Vegemite but said it is ‘too salty.’ I agreed. It must take some getting used to.

He enjoyed his visit to the Gold Coast earlier in the day. I went to goldcost today. It is very fine day. It is great view. It is good to see Sakari smiling. It was a difficult spring, but he is moving forward.
